Features of PLCs

PLC stands for Programmable Logic Controller, which is a computer designed for variable logic control. PLCs have the following features:

  • Variable logic control: PLCs can perform logic control according to the user's program. Therefore, if the requirements of the process change, the system can be easily changed by changing the program.
  • Robustness: PLCs are designed for industrial environments and have high durability and reliability.
  • Extensibility: PLCs can be expanded by adding various input and output modules.

Components of PLCs

PLCs are made up of the following components:

  • CPU: The central processing unit of the PLC, responsible for executing the program and controlling the input and output.
  • Memory: A device that stores the PLC's program and data.
  • Input module: A device that supplies input signals to the PLC.

  • Output module: A device that generates output signals from the PLC.

Applications of PLCs

PLCs are used in various industrial fields. Representative application areas include the following:

  • Manufacturing: PLCs are used in manufacturing processes for process control, quality control, and other purposes.
  • Transportation: PLCs are used in transportation systems for signal control, safety management, and other purposes.
  • Construction: PLCs are used in building systems for lighting control, HVAC control, and other purposes.
  • Energy: PLCs are used in energy systems for power control, power generation, and other purposes.

PLCs are essential equipment in the field of industrial automation. By understanding the features and components of PLCs, you can use PLCs effectively.
